Freelance SEO Writers: How to Increase Your Chances of Landing Gigs Quickly

I became a freelance SEO how to hire your next SEO author in 2007, after being downsized out of my job. I tried to obtain another position after becoming downsized, but after weeks of hunting and no viable options materializing, I turned back to what I understood - freelance writing.

You see, I have freelanced since 1993 - full-time and part-time. Luckily, it is a career I never totally let go of because when I found SEO composing, it literally opened up chances in the realm of making money online that I'd never dreamed possible. But, I digress.

How I Landed Jobs Instantly When I First Started Out

Why did I decide to do that landed me jobs fast - I am literally talking inside a few hours - as an SEO writer? I "nicked it." What do I mean? I mean I marketed myself as a niche content provider. Following are two explanations why.

(I) Easier to find work: In my experience, it's a lot easier to market yourself as a professional in lieu of a generalist. Research backs this assertion up across all types of professions, not only freelance writing. Proof? The article, Should you be a generalist or a specialist? About the Get Rich Slowly site conditions:

As you focus, fewer and fewer people are trying to find fewer and fewer tasks - since not everybody, sometimes for valid reasons, wants to find the degree/get the experience/take the test/or whatever that will allow them to concentrate.

And according to the BLS chart, many general occupations are entry-level, requiring little to no schooling.

Since generalist positions can require little to no education, they are more inclined to spend less than expert posts - another reason to concentrate.

So what exactly was my specialty? Real estate writing, mainly writing about mortgages.

I had been a realtor in new York in the late 80s and from 2006 to 2007, I had been a mortgage adviser. So I was super capable to write about mortgages - from various different perspectives. Hence, it made sense to pitch myself as a real estate writer.

How I Landed My First SEO Writing Job

The very first freelance SEO writing job I landed was writing posts on mortgages for an online marketing company in Canada.

Although I am American, they had no problem employing me, and that's just another good thing about this kind of freelance writing career by the way. You can do it from anywhere.

In a few hours of sending out some prospecting emails, I had landed my first SEO content writing project - and proceeded to write hundreds of posts for this particular company. But, they initially gave me a shot because they had someone who understood how to write about mortgages. Once they saw I was a competent freelancer, they entrusted me to compose other content.

I got thousands of dollars with this business - sometimes receiving article orders from just two to three accounts execs within exactly the exact same company in 1 day.

There was no way on earth that I could manage to write for that! And I didn't need to.

I understood that there were companies out there who cared about their brand and wanted high-quality in-depth, well-researched, engaging articles - the kind I had been willing, ready and able to supply.

You see, when a company is cares about their brand, they do not want low-quality content. And no author is going to put the exact same effort into an article they're getting paid $5 to as, rather than one where they are getting earning $50, $85 $100 or $150 or more for. They just are not. Nowadays content promotion is all of the rage. Proof?

B2B entrepreneurs, as in years ago, continue to be heavily centered on creating engaging articles (72 percent), mentioning it as the top priority... within the next year. [Supply: The Content Advertising Institute: 2016 Benchmarks, Budgets, and Trends-North America report]

They are willing to pay handsomely to find this "engaging content." And in my estimation, if you specialize, your earnings will be limited by your marketing skill.

Believe, what skills/knowledge do I have that I can use to carve out a niche for myself as a freelance search engine optimization content provider? Then get to advertising! More info here
